So having over a year to plan our wedding has given me the ability to DIY projects that I want ahead of time and enjoy the process rather than trying to rush to get it done by the big day.
My first DIY project was the Ring Bearers box. I got my inspirations from several posts on Pinterest (DUH!) and combined what I like about each to come up with the final result.
Materials:
- Wooden Box $1.19 at Hobby Lobby
- Blue Acrylic Paint $1.99 at Hobby Lobby
- Fabric (I used quilting squares) $0.99 at Wal-Mart
- Velcro I already had
- Ribbon $1.99 at Hobby Lobby
- Stuffing $3.99 at Hobby Lobby
I started by painting the box navy blue. It took a couple of coats.
I was going to paint the lettering on the box but I can never seem to get smooth lines. I recently acquired a Cricut Expressions Cutter from Katrina and thought this was the perfect project to get my feet wet. After ordering supplies from Amazon (cartridge, cutting mat, white vinyl and transfer tape) and watching several dozen “How To” videos on youtube I was ready to begin!
Then I cut small rectangle pieces of fabric and sewed all but a little hole which I stuffed with foam and hand sewed closed.
I placed velcro on the bottom of both pillows to secure it into the box. I had to sew the Velcro into place so it didn’t come off every time you moved the pillow.
And attached a ribbon with a couple of stitches at the center of each pillow to tie the rings to.
Here is the finished product.

One DIY down, now how many to go??
